Avoiding Buzzwords

Buzzword (noun) is a word or phrase, often an item of jargon, that is fashionable at a particular time or in a particular context.

Buzzwords are on the rise in all forms of communication. You find them in every sector, but the use of business buzzwords may be in overdrive.

A tech company moved into new offices and decided to name their conference rooms after overused business clichés. Examples include Out of the Box, Pumped, Stoked, Finger Pistols, Laser Focused, Tiger Team, Low Hanging Fruit, Boil the Ocean, Art of the Possible, Close the Loop, On the Same Page, and Move the Needle.

Clever and quirky, this example illustrates no tolerance for bullshit. It also shows that business jargon can create barriers, especially for those who consider English to be their second language. Buzzwords generate ambiguity.
